The Match Up Between American Sports And British Sports
Regardles of the similar language, not talking about the spelling differences, Brits and Americans have a huge visible veiety in probably every aspect of life. Some might think that there are more similarities than differences but it is hard to see any similarity beyondbesides music and movies. We can say, may be art really has no borders, so, we’ll simply rule out that point. We can’t really use the word ‘entertainment’ in place of art here as another main difference noticed in British and American culture is of sports. Undoubtedly, football has eliminated that difference to a great extent, yet, there is still one small difference that can be simply seen in the local playgrounds. In USA, it is more likely to find Pitching machines and other baseball training aids in almost every locality. On the other hand,, the English find their own pride in playing cricket.
Although both the games are bat and ball games and both require two teams of players and follow somewhat similar rules, there are more differences than one can imagine. Here we are not only talking about the usage of word ‘pitching’ instead of ‘bowling’, but far more technical differences as well. Let’s take look at how the Americans have managed to spend their leisure time differently than the British.
• The very initial differencepoimt is a field. The cricket atadiomPs is round in shape and the baseball field is a unique diamond shape. The bat of this American sport is a cylindrical one with the diameter of one edge larger than the other. On the other hand, the cricket bat has a flat shape and a rounded handle handle on the top.
• A round ball is used for both games. The cricket ball now used in test matches is red in color and relatively a bit heavier but with a smaller size. Although, the variation is negligible. Both the balls are made of cork. The baseball ball is essentially white with red stitching and in cricket, white is used for ODIs.
• In baseball, the number of umpire can range between one to six. But, usually there are four umpires in a field. In cricket, there are typically three umpires, out of which two are on the ground and third umpire is not in the field. There is also a match referee in cricket.
• In baseball, all the players except the catcher use a glove in one hand. While in cricket, protective equipment is worn by the batsmen while other fielders and bowlers do not use any kind of gear.
• In basketball, individually a batsman is allowed a maximum of three legal pitches. While in cricket, the number of balls in the game decides the number of balls per player.
• The highest score that can be earned in one hitball is four in baseball. In cricket, the maximum score on one ball can be six.
Besides all these disimilarities, the length of both games also differs. Defining a more fast paced and hectic lifestyle of Americans, baseball games are normally shorter. The test matches of cricket can last up to five days but one day internationals also require almost a complete day to decide a winner.
