Billiard Tips, Play Your Best Pool
I’d like to talk to you about billiard tips. Billiards is a game of attentiveness, so if you want to play well, you have to have the correct gear. You don’t really need to get a pool cue, but should think about it if you’re going to get serious about the sport.
Willie Smith set in motion the trend of using a cue that was heavier than your regular one. These cues that he played with were around 18 oz. The average weight of a cue is about 15oz. to 16 oz., with the length being around 4 feet 8 to 9 inches. I’ve known some cues to be around 4 feet 10 inches, but the specks of the cue are merely the player’s personal taste.
If you are new to the game, stick to the regular size of a cue, because you want the cue to work for you, not against you. Heavier cues are better than lighter ones. The most popular weight of a cue is around 17 oz. to 18 oz. The specks of the cue are in the person’s personal taste of what feels right for them. The more wood the better the cue will be. You want it to be stiff. Don’t get a cue that moves from one point to another. Those usually don’t stay in your hand very well.
Once you get your own cue, it is wise not to lend it out to other players. A horrible player could wreak it in one play. Buy a cue with a good size tip with the surroundings in brass. Keep it polished with a dry cloth. Don’t pay too much for one. You can get some at good prices if you shop around for them.
They use the ivory balls in the championship games. Ivory balls are expensive, but the value of the play makes it a wise asset. The other kinds of balls are called composition balls. When you play with them your angle shot need to be wider. When you get use to playing with one kind of ball, it is hard to switch and play with another kind. This is because the hits and execution are done a certain way.
The cloth of the table is indestructible. It is hard to cut it with a regular knife and it is very hard-wearing. Lots of tables are covered with this kind of cloth. Composition balls are played on napless cloths, which aren’t that long lasting.
The cushions should be in excellent condition. This is the edge around the table where the ball springs back.
There are some individuals that have the natural ability to strike the ball in the right place without any practice. This is about one in a million players. You want to strike the ball so it moves and spins. These are just some of the billiard tips I have.
