Roulette Terminoligy

All games have their own slang, roulette is no exception. It can be hard to follow a conversation about the game if you aren’t up to date with all of the terms. In roulette there are terms that are related to making bets, here are some examples.

Most of the terms indicate a specific type of bet; here are the ones that are more common when talking about outside bets. Here is a common outside bet that give an almost 50% chance to win, it is called either “high” or “low”, betting “high” means that your bet depends on whether or not the ball lands on numbers 19-36, betting “low” means that your bed depends on the ball landing on numbers 1-18.

“Black” or “red” are also roughly 50% bets, if you are betting “black” than you are betting that the ball will land on a black space, if you are betting “red” than you are betting that the ball will land on a red space. “Even” or “odd” are the last of the 50% outside bets, “even” means you are betting that the ball lands on an even number and “odd” means that you are betting that the ball lands on an odd number.

The slang for many inside bets aren’t as simple and straight forward as the names of outside bets are.” “Single” means that you are betting on a single number, if you are trying to make a single bet on the number six you would say “single six”. Betting on a single number are sometimes called “straight bets”. A “square” or “quarter” bet indicates that you are betting on a square of four numbers for example the numbers “28,32,11,and 30”. A “split bet” is a bet on two neighboring numbers like “28 and 32”.

These are some of the more commons bets of each type, however there are some terms that have nothing to do with the type of bet being made.
