How To Choose An Outdoor Camping Tent
Most people immediately think of sleeping bags and tents as soon as you mention camping. This is because the tent is the item that will be used most while camping. Tents provide a safe place to sleep as well as a comfortable place to escape from the wind, the rain, the heat, and the cold. It comes as no surprise that campers always strive to get the best tents available to them prior to going out camping.
I've slept out in the great outdoors many times and have been in both good and bad tents. In this article I'll go over some of the main things to look for when purchasing a tent for camping. Once you have finished with this page, you'll be able to find the best tents to meet all of your particular camping needs.
First of all, you need to decide what kind of camping you will be doing. A car camping tent will be much different than a backpacking tent. Even though it is possible to employ a hiking tent during a car camping trip, you'll have to make sure you do not purchase a car camping tent to use in place of a backpacking tent during a hiking trip. The weight of a car camping tent is simply too much to bear during a long hiking trip.
Once you've determined what kind of tent to get, you can then decide on what size tent to get. Keep in mind that a tents rating is typically not very accurate when it comes to how many people can fit in it. For instance, if you have a tent rated for four people it will probably only comfortably sleep two people.
You'll also want to choose a season type of tent to purchase. Four season tents, three season tents, and simple summer tents are all available. Make your choice based off of the climate you plan on spending your time in.
Another thing to consider is what style of tent to use. You can buy A style tents, dome tents, and tunnel style tents. The shape of the A style tent is very similar to the letter A. This type of tent is the least comfortable. Tunnel tents are a bit broader than the A style but are not quite as broad as the dome style.
Just remember that the best tents to buy will vary from trip to trip and you will save yourself a lot of confusion.
