Analyzing The 2011 Virginia Tech Football Schedule For The Most Exciting Match-Ups

The 2011 Virginia Tech football schedule has gone out and fans and experts alike are doing their normal assessment of the schedule and trying to prognosticate wins and losses. Fans are gearing up and beginning to determine exactly where they will get such things as Virginia Tech vs East Carolina football tickets.

In case you go through the 2011 Virginia Tech football schedule, you will note numerous familiar things as well as newer and more effective things we haven’t observed in recent years. In 2011 the actual Hokies are going to have their usual ACC adversaries both home as well as on the road, including a few high profile Thursday evening match-ups. But what's missing that we’ve witnessed in the recent past is the high profile out-of-conference match-up that generally comes at the outset of the season.

Recently, Virginia Tech has begun the season with a high profile out-of-conference match-up. This is usually a designed for TV game that is against a premier challenger that is ranked, and the game is hyped all throughout the off-season. Virginia Tech has performed games like this against USC, LSU, Alabama, and last year Boise State. While these games produce excellent expectation for the season, and excellent determination for the team, they have a drawback (well, at least for the Hokies) for the reason that Virginia Tech has lost most of them. This places them within an instant hole to begin the season.

All of us don’t know if this is intentional or not, however the 2011 season does not have this type of game. In fact, there is no compelling out-of-conference match-up on the schedule whatsoever. On the contrary, the Hokies begin the season with Four OOC opponents from ‘mid-major’ conferences, including a games against East Carolina, Arkansas State, Marshall, along with a Div I-AA team Appalachian State. Despite being I-AA, Appalachian State is a good program who has conpeted for many current national titles.

Following those 4 opening games, the Hokies get into ACC action full swing for the rest of the season. This year, Virginia Tech offers home games against Clemson, Miami, Boston College, and North Carolina (UNC). Certainly Virginia Tech vs Clemson tickets will be high in demand. They are on the road in the ACC against Wake Forest, Duke, Georgia Tech, and Virginia. A closer look reveals some fascinating observations.

The actual Hokies clearly have a favorable ACC schedule. Their most difficult opponents are all at home (Clemson, Miami, BC, and UNC). The lower opponents are on the road (Wake, Duke, and UVa). The ACC schedule lines up properly for the Hokies in 2011.

Additionally, because of the Hokies are going to be breaking in a new qb in 2011 (Logan Thomas will take over for graduating Tyrod Taylor), having 4 mid-major teams to start the season is certainly an advantage. This definitely gives the Hokies a chance to break in Thomas before hitting the harder ACC schedule.

Finally, while there is absolutely no large early season OOC match-up, there will be some large TV games for Virginia Tech this season. Particularly, the Hokies will play at Georgia Tech and also at home against UNC in back to back again Thurs evening games within November. Virginia Tech vs UNC football tickets will be some of the most difficult to get in 2011.
