Bass Fishing Tips And Strategies

Sponsored By: Gerber Knives

The challenging but fun sport of bass fishing can be done in many parts of North America. Catching a big largemouth bass is extremely satisfying because these fish are aggressive and naturally feisty and can be hard to catch. The tips about bass fishing in the article below should be useful for you if you are interested in learning more about this challenging sport.

Successful bass fishing begins with finding out where the fish actually are in the water before you begin. Sometimes a fishing hole can have hundreds of fish, however it may not have the specific kind of fish that you are looking for. These types of fish live in specific aquatic surroundings that are conducive to their particular biological profile. If you find an area that has weed beds, underwater shelter such as a ledge, and baitfish in the water, you will more than likely find these fish. You will also find them in cooler water temperatures at around 60°F to 75°F; they also avoid bright sunlight. Frogs with lily pads, cattails, and shallow bays are preferable to largemouth bass. These fish, because they do not like sunlight, are typically found at dusk or dawn.

One thing you'll need to get is the right fishing tackle; there are literally hundreds of different shapes and sizes to choose from. You also need to consider the type of bait you are going to use when catching the bass, as well as the type of hook, which should be very sharp, that you are going to use. No matter what kind of hook you're using, you should always have a hook sharpener with you when you go fishing. By having sharp hooks all of the time, you increase your odds of getting a fish. If you're going to be fishing all day, you'll probably need to sharpen your hook at least once. When you go fishing, it is always best to try a few different hooks to increase your odds of catching a large mouth bass.

Although the largemouth bass are the most popular kind with anglers, there are white bass, also called sandies you might want to try. The time when these fish swim upstream to spawn is an event called the Spring White Bass run and you could probably catch a lot of fish during that time.

During this activity, the best water temperature is 55 degrees and you could find yourself catching buckets of these fish if the conditions are ideal. Because this is a popular time to fish for white bass, make sure you're following any local laws or restrictions and have the proper fishing license. You need a sturdy, medium action pole with a solid bait-casting reel to catch this aggressive species of fish.

Bass fishing can be highly rewarding as we have seen in this article as well as a challenging, diverse and interesting sport. Don't expect to catch hundreds of fish the first few times you go fishing if you are a beginner. Just focus on the joy of the experience and learning instead of the results. One you have gotten more experience in where to find the fish, they will start biting.
