Some Throwing Knife Choice Guidelines

Knives can be quite a lot of fun and while with almost every other product you buy it is typically recommended that you know your options before you go out and purchase the initial one you come across. And that way, when begin by using a very good throwing knife, it will make your training to throw more beneficial too.

The first thing you should know about choosing a throwing knife is that it should definitely not be sharp. It is simply too easy to end up getting hurt with one. Even if you do not throw it by the blade it is likely that eventually you could get injured by having the knife bounce back from a target and hit you. And that of course will be no fun at all.

The handle of your knife does not matter so much. Although, regular handles made of the same piece of steel as the knife are preferred by many knife throwers. And they look nice too.

As far as the shape of the knife goes, simple is better for most people. A good round knife will do very well and is very common to come by. Getting throwing knives with any parts sticking out is a certain no-no.

Fancy designs may look cool but any protruding parts on the knife will only end up getting caught on something and can limit your grip on the knife. Any parts hanging out will just make it harder to throw your knife.

The weight of the knife is also a crucial aspect to choosing the right one. Most beginners will be well suited with a throwing knife that weighs about two hundred grams. Any heavier than that and it will take too much strength for a beginner to throw the knife effectively. And a lighter knife than two hundred grams takes a much more accurate thrower. Wobbling in the air when thrown is a common problem for light knives.

Another item you should consider is the length of your knives. Generally twenty to twenty-five centimeters is a good length for throwing knives that weigh in the two hundred gram range.

Be sure to pick up and handle as many knives as you can when you go shopping for the optimum throwing knife. This will give you a good idea of the selection available and also how the different knives feel in your hand. And there is a huge variety of throwing knives available.

If you can find a local store to go to it is recommended that you handle every knife they have in stock. You will want to grip them by both the blade and the handle. If you fall in love with a particular knife go ahead and buy it. A general guideline is that a good throwing knife should cost about fifteen dollars.

The internet is a great place to search for throwing knives if there happen to be no stores that carry them in your neighborhood. The huge variety you will find on the internet will probably dwarf anything you find at stores. The only caveat is you will not be able to pick up and handle the knife before purchasing it.
